TMJ Therapy®

Supporting jaw health, whole-body balance, and hormonal harmony

The TMJ (temporomandibular joint) is the hinge that connects your jaw to your skull—and it works harder than you think. From talking and chewing to yawning, swallowing, clenching and even expressing emotion, your TMJ is in near-constant use.

It’s also one of the most overworked and under-recognised joints in the body.

Could your jaw be trying to tell you something?

Common signs of TMJ dysfunction include:

  • Clicking or popping when opening and closing your mouth
  • Clenching or grinding (bruxism), often at night
  • Jaw tightness, tension, or fatigue
  • Neck, shoulder, or upper back pain
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Ear ringing or dizziness

Stress and anxiety can also show up here—especially through jaw clenching or teeth grinding during sleep. Even something as routine as a long dental procedure can shift the jaw out of balance, leading to discomfort or misalignment.

The “hidden imposter” behind pain

TMJ dysfunction is sometimes called the “hidden imposter” because its symptoms can mimic other musculoskeletal issues. Many people experience chronic pain or discomfort without realising their jaw is at the root of the problem.

It’s estimated that around 30% of the population is affected by TMJ dysfunction—yet it often goes undiagnosed or untreated.

What is TMJ Therapy®?

TMJ Therapy® was developed by Bowen Therapist Ron Phelan. It is a targeted, non-invasive technique that works to gently realign and restore function to the temporomandibular joint.

When combined with Bowen Therapy, the two approaches work synergistically to:

  • Relieve jaw tension and facial discomfort
  • Reduce headaches and migraines
  • Ease neck and shoulder pain
  • Support better sleep (by reducing clenching/grinding)
  • Improve posture and whole-body balance

TMJ, hormones & women’s health

The TMJ sits near the pituitary gland, a key player in the body’s hormonal system. Dysfunction in the jaw can affect the gland’s regulation of hormones such as LH and FSH, which play a critical role in ovulation, menstruation, and overall hormonal health.

By supporting proper jaw function, TMJ Therapy may also help regulate hormonal imbalances—particularly when paired with Bowen Therapy as part of a holistic treatment plan.

Could TMJ Therapy support your healing?

Whether you’ve been living with chronic headaches, persistent jaw pain, or stress-related clenching, TMJ Therapy® offers a gentle, effective way to bring your body back into balance.

Together with Bowen Therapy, it can provide lasting relief—often where other approaches have fallen short.

Ready to ease the tension?

If TMJ dysfunction is affecting your quality of life, I’d love to help.
