When a wound closes, most people consider the healing done.
But scar tissue doesn't behave like the tissue it replaced. It forms differently — laid down in a disorganised pattern that can bind layers of fascia and muscle, restrict nerve flow, alter posture and movement, and create a pulling or tightening sensation that radiates well beyond the scar itself.
For many people, the scar stopped being visible years ago. The effects on their body never quite did.
McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release Therapy® (MSTR®) is a gentle, non-invasive technique developed specifically to address these deeper restrictions — working with both old and new scars to release the tissue, restore movement and reduce the physical and sometimes emotional impact the scar has been having.
WHAT SCAR TISSUE ACTUALLY DOES
Beneath every scar is a fascial disruption.
Fascia is the connective web that runs through every structure in the body — linking muscles, organs, nerves and skin in one continuous system. When scar tissue forms, it can tether layers of this web together, creating restrictions that the body compensates for — often without you realising it.
This is why a C-section scar can contribute to lower back pain. Why a mastectomy scar can affect shoulder mobility and posture years later. Why a knee reconstruction scar can alter gait and create hip or back issues that seemingly have nothing to do with the original injury.
The scar is rarely just where it looks.
Some scars also carry an emotional dimension. The body stores memory in tissue — particularly where trauma was involved, whether surgical or accidental. Clients sometimes notice emotional responses during or after treatment that they hadn't anticipated. This is not unusual. It is part of the body completing what it began.
WHAT MSTR CAN HELP WITH
At Bowen Life in Brisbane, scar tissue release therapy is used for:
Post-surgical scars
Trauma and accident scars
Symptoms associated with scar tissue
WHAT TO EXPECT
MSTR® is gentle and non-invasive — working directly on and around the scar using light, precise contact. Most clients find it surprisingly comfortable, even on sensitive scar tissue.
Sessions are typically 45-60 minutes. The number of sessions needed varies depending on the age, size and complexity of the scar — some clients notice significant change in a single session, others benefit from a short course of treatment.
MSTR® works beautifully alongside Bowen Therapy and PEMF — Bowen addressing the compensatory patterns the body has built around the scar, PEMF supporting tissue healing and inflammation reduction at the cellular level.
